Academics urge Nigerian students to embrace entrepreneurship

Experts called on Nigerian students to adopt entrepreneurship, digital literacy and employability skills during the Inaugural Career Fair 2026 at KolaDaisi University in Ibadan.

The event, held on 9 June 2026, featured addresses from Prof. Olajumoke Morenikeji, Dr. Jonathan Ikeolumba and Prof. Adebola Ekanola. Ikeolumba stated that the labour market could not absorb all graduates. He said, “The jobs are simply not there. We have the capacity to produce about 50 million employable people, but we do not have the capacity to create jobs for all of them.” He encouraged students to start small businesses using digital tools such as artificial intelligence. Ekanola highlighted the need for digital, technical and soft skills including communication and critical thinking. Morenikeji explained that the fair aimed to prepare final-year students for life after graduation through direct interaction with industry experts.
