Agriculture minister reviews progress on pesticide plant with Chinese delegation

Alaa Farouk, Egypt's Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, met with a high-level Chinese delegation to review developments in a project for a new agricultural pesticide manufacturing plant. The meeting, attended by Hala Abou Youssef, Chair of the Agricultural Pesticides Committee, falls under Egyptian-Chinese cooperation. The initiative promises a major boost to Egypt's agricultural sector through advanced Chinese technology.

The meeting covered the project's implementation plans, set to be a significant qualitative addition to Egypt's agricultural sector. It will utilize advanced Chinese technologies for transferring cutting-edge pesticide manufacturing expertise, executed via joint Egyptian-Chinese investments in partnership with local investors.

Minister Farouk underscored the project's strategic value, highlighting its role in localizing pesticide production, advancing technology transfer, and bolstering domestic manufacturing. He noted its alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals and Egypt Vision 2030, contributing to the national economy by providing safe, effective pesticides that meet top international standards.

In keeping with President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's directives, the Egyptian government has implemented various measures to attract investment and enhance the business environment. Farouk emphasized the agricultural sector's promise as an investment hub, with the state's dedication to private sector involvement for sustainable development.

He called for an integrated action plan to ensure project sustainability and effective technology transfer, insisting on rigorous oversight across production stages to comply with international technical and environmental standards. Farouk also stressed research and development's vital role in boosting crop yields and safeguarding public health.

Hala Abou Youssef explained that the plant will operate under full Chinese management for three initial years, featuring intensive training programs for Egyptian staff in all production and management aspects. Management will then fully transfer to the trained Egyptian team, ensuring ongoing efficiency.
