Al-Sisi affirms full support for Sudan's sovereignty and calls for accountability on conflict crimes

President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi reaffirmed on Thursday Egypt's full support for Sudan's unity and sovereignty, calling for an end to crimes against the Sudanese people and accountability for those responsible. The discussions took place during an expanded meeting at the presidential palace with General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, where both sides agreed to intensify regional and international efforts to restore peace.

In an official meeting at the presidential palace on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi expressed Egypt's commitment to supporting Sudan in overcoming its current crisis and easing the harsh humanitarian conditions stemming from the ongoing conflict. Al-Sisi emphasized Egypt's readiness to exert every possible effort to aid the brotherly Sudanese people.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, the official presidential spokesperson, stated: “The two sides stressed the necessity of stopping the crimes committed against the brotherly Sudanese people and holding those responsible accountable.”

The talks also addressed broader regional security issues, particularly in the Nile Basin and the Horn of Africa. Both leaders confirmed their identical visions on national security priorities, especially water security, while firmly rejecting unilateral measures in the Blue Nile Basin and underscoring the need to respect international law to safeguard the interests of all riparian states.

General al-Burhan expressed his appreciation for Egypt's continuous support during the crisis, noting that Cairo's efforts reflect the depth of fraternal ties between the two nations. The official reception included an honor guard ceremony and the playing of national anthems, followed by bilateral discussions between the delegations and a luncheon hosted by Al-Sisi in honor of the Sudanese leader.

This meeting occurs amid regional tensions, as Sudan grapples with an internal conflict threatening stability in the area.
