Peruvian club Alianza Lima has agreed with defender Carlos Zambrano to end his contract following a sexual abuse complaint from an Argentine woman. The case also involves former players Miguel Trauco and Sergio Peña, who were previously let go for the same reason. The complaint stems from an incident during preseason in Montevideo, Uruguay.
Alianza Lima announced the termination of Carlos Zambrano's contract, a Peruvian central defender and former Boca Juniors player, after a mutual agreement. This decision follows a complaint of alleged sexual abuse by a 22-year-old Argentine woman, which also implicates Miguel Trauco and Sergio Peña, who left the club weeks earlier for the same reason.
The incident took place during Alianza Lima's preseason in Montevideo, Uruguay. According to the complaint, the woman and a friend were invited by Zambrano to the team hotel. In the room, they shared alcoholic drinks with Trauco and Peña, at which point, per the testimony, she was sexually assaulted by the three players.
After the episode, the complainant returned to Argentina and sought medical care at Clínica San Juan de Dios in San Isidro, where she reported the events and kept the clothes worn, potentially key to the investigation. On January 21, she went to Hospital Muñiz and formalized the criminal complaint. The case is handled by Juzgado Nacional en lo Criminal y Correccional N°14, led by Judge Rabbione, and classified as sexual abuse with carnal access.
Initial judicial measures include intervention by the División Delitos de Violencia Sexual, seizure of the provided clothing, collection of medical records, forensic exams, biological sample collection, and prophylaxis treatment. For protection, the woman received a panic button and support from Programa 137 for sexual violence victims.
In response, Alianza Lima issued a statement indefinitely separating the three players from the first team and starting an internal disciplinary process. "The club has indefinitely separated the involved footballers from the men's first team, initiating a disciplinary procedure according to our internal regulations," the institution stated.
