Amhara region advances maternal health services in facilities

The Amhara Regional Health Bureau is focusing on improving maternal health services at health centers across the region. The Maternal Health Month concluded with a drawing competition in Gondar town. Efforts to reduce maternal mortality have shown confirmed results through studies.

The Amhara Regional Health Bureau is actively working to enhance maternal health services provided at health centers throughout the region. This initiative, guided by the theme “Creative and Sustainable Financing for Maternal Health,” culminated in a drawing competition in Gondar town to mark the end of Maternal Health Month.

Bureau spokesperson Abebe Temtime stated that studies have verified the positive outcomes of measures aimed at reducing maternal deaths associated with childbirth. In the first six months of the budget year, more than 300,000 mothers delivered in health facilities.

Alternative services for mothers are now available in 322 health institutions, while 37 health centers offer mothers' waiting home services. To address mortality from postpartum hemorrhage, partnerships with blood banks have led to the collection of 44,000 units of blood over six months.

Bertukan Sisay, head of the Regional Women, Children and Social Affairs Bureau, noted that comprehensive counseling is being delivered from prenatal to postnatal periods to prevent maternal deaths. These efforts represent key steps in safeguarding maternal well-being in the region.
