Andemos requested 15 days from MinTransporte for new light cargo vehicle rules

Andemos asked the Ministry of Transport for a 15-day transition period before applying new rules to register light cargo vehicles starting July 1.

The association warned of risks such as end-of-month congestion, logistical issues at the port of Buenaventura, and lack of tests for the RUNT application. Andrés Chaves, president of Andemos, said that imposing new barriers amid a strong winter wave puts emergency response at risk.

The guild noted that the Ministry implemented the measure through a circular issued hours before it took effect. Andemos filed a petition to conduct pilot tests and publicize the procedure.

It also clarified that the contribution to the Fondo para el Ascenso Tecnológico does not apply to electric cargo vehicles under article 253 of Law 2294 of 2023. Transport modernization should facilitate clean technologies without creating additional barriers.

Cargo transportation costs on Colombia's main routes rose 5% to 9% in January and February 2026, with hourly rates increasing 21% to 30%. These hikes follow the government's January toll adjustments and are driven by salary increases, fuel prices, and logistical delays.

Triggered by gasoil price hikes, the protest has caused estimated losses of US$ 100 million over four days. Agroindustry groups urge an urgent resolution.
