Seventeen-year-old amateur Asterisk Talley posted a bogey-free 66 in the third round of the 2026 U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club. The round is the lowest weekend score by an amateur in tournament history.
Talley recovered from a difficult second round to make the cut. She birdied the first, third, sixth, 10th and 17th holes on Saturday for a six-under-par score that moved her within four shots of the lead. The performance also marked the first bogey-free round of 66 or lower by an amateur in an LPGA major since Louise Stahle in 2005. Talley credited improved putting and a focused approach after Friday’s challenges. She now enters the final round with a chance to become only the second amateur to win the U.S. Women’s Open, joining Catherine Lacoste who claimed the title in 1967. World No. 1 Nelly Korda and other major champions remain ahead of her. Talley previously made the cut and earned low-amateur honors at the 2024 U.S. Women’s Open as a 15-year-old. She described her growth in maturity and mindset since that event.
