BGN warns against using MBG vehicles for market shopping

Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency Nanik S. Deyang has reminded managers not to misuse operational vehicles of the Food Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) for shopping at markets. She also warned about price markup practices by partners in the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program. The warnings were given at a coordination meeting in Surakarta attended by 933 people.

Surakarta, VIVA – Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) Nanik S. Deyang issued strong warnings to the Heads of Food Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), Financial Supervisors, and Nutrition Supervisors in the Solo Raya region. The coordination meeting was attended by 933 MBG kitchen managers from Surakarta City, Boyolali Regency, Sragen Regency, and Karanganyar Regency. The event took place on Thursday, February 26, 2026.

Nanik stressed that SPPG operational vehicles are exclusively for distributing Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) to beneficiary schools and Posyandu. "The SPPG Operational Vehicle is used to distribute Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) to beneficiary schools and Posyandu, do not use it for shopping, let alone for other matters," she said in a written statement.

She revealed receiving frequent reports of these vehicles being used for market shopping, which could compromise cleanliness and hygiene. "If there are still SPPG operational vehicles used for shopping at the market, I will suspend them!" Nanik stated firmly. She added that even if partners insist, SPPG Heads must refuse, and suppliers are responsible for transporting food ingredients themselves.

Additionally, Nanik addressed reports of price markups on raw food materials by SPPG partners, often exceeding the Highest Retail Price (HET) and involving poor quality. "Remember! SPPG Heads, Financial Supervisors, Nutrition Supervisors, never follow the wishes, let alone collaborate with SPPG Partners who markup raw food material prices for the MBG Program, especially with poor quality food ingredients," she said.

Nanik instructed regional coordinators to directly inspect SPPGs to document markup cases. She warned that SPPG Heads are accountable if the Financial Audit Board (BPK) finds discrepancies, while proven markup partners will be suspended. Nutrition Supervisors are required to check the condition, quality, freshness, and menu compliance of ingredients, while Financial Supervisors verify prices match HET without markups.

Indonesia's National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has temporarily suspended operations of 1,256 Nutrition Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), or MBG kitchens, in eastern Indonesia starting April 1, 2026, due to lacking Sanitation Hygiene Certificates (SLHS) and Wastewater Treatment Installations (IPAL). Rudi Setiawan, Director of Monitoring and Supervision for Region III at BGN, stated the move ensures food safety and hygiene standards in the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program.

Indonesia's Minister for Villages and Underdeveloped Regions, Yandri Susanto, warned that the central government will impose strict sanctions on partners of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program who violate rules. He made the statement during a visit to a Nutritious Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) in Padang Pariaman Regency on Friday (3 April 2026).
