BMKG forecasts mostly cloudy skies with light to moderate rain for Saturday

The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency released a weather forecast for Saturday dominated by cloudy conditions and light to moderate rain across much of Indonesia.

BMKG detailed that cloudy weather is expected to cover Banda Aceh, Pekanbaru, Jambi, and Jakarta. Light to moderate rain could hit Medan, Padang, Tanjung Pinang, Pangkal Pinang, Palembang, Serang, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, and Palangka Raya.

BMKG forecaster Ina Indah stated that Bengkulu, Bandar Lampung, and Banjarmasin are forecast to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning. In eastern regions, light to moderate rain is likely in Denpasar, Mataram, Makassar, Kendari, Mamuju, Palu, Gorontalo, and Ternate.

Deputy for Climatology at BMKG Ardhasena Sopaheluwakan explained the high complexity of seasonal predictions in Indonesia due to interactions among three large-scale ocean factors and unique local geographical characteristics. He cited sea surface temperatures in Indonesian waters, the Indian Ocean Dipole, and El Nino and La Nina as main influences.
