The Milwaukee Brewers picked University of Houston first baseman Carsten Sabathia III in the 20th round of the 2026 MLB Draft. The selection connects the team to a key figure from its 2008 playoff run.
The Brewers made the pick on Day 2 of the draft. Sabathia, son of Hall of Famer CC Sabathia, is a first baseman who hit .283 with six home runs in his senior season at Houston after recovering from shoulder surgery.
Brewers VP of amateur acquisitions Tod Johnson noted the younger Sabathia’s bat speed and family ties. “He’s always swung the bat pretty well,” Johnson said. “And obviously, CC is a huge piece of the franchise history here.”
CC Sabathia went 11-2 with a 1.65 ERA in 17 starts for Milwaukee in 2008 after a midseason trade. His son grew up around the game and shifted from pitching to hitting after an arm injury at age 11.
The Brewers also have Jadyn Fielder, son of Prince Fielder, in their minor league system.
