Pittsburgh Steelers offensive tackle Broderick Jones continues to recover from a serious neck injury that required spinal-fusion surgery. The 2023 first-round pick is viewed as a potential swing tackle if healthy, but questions persist ahead of training camp.
Jones suffered the injury in Week 12 last season against the Chicago Bears. He has not returned to full activity and lost significant weight during recovery.
Steelers beat writer Mark Kaboly described Jones as the team's biggest wild card. "They'll bring him back — I think he'll have the physical here within the next week or two," Kaboly said. He added that Jones may start camp on the PUP list unless cleared to 100 percent.
The team has shifted its offensive line under new coaches James Campen and Jahri Evans. Troy Fautanu is set at left tackle while Dylan Cook starts at right tackle, with first-round pick Max Iheanachor developing. Center Zach Frazier remains the only projected starter from the prior season.
Jones could fill a swing role or extra lineman spot for first-year head coach Mike McCarthy if he regains strength.
