Civvie 11 criticizes Xbox layoffs at id Software

YouTuber Civvie 11 has spoken out against recent staff reductions at Microsoft, highlighting their impact on id Software. The company announced plans to cut more than 3,000 positions in recent weeks. Civvie credits the studio with reviving the shooter genre through recent Doom titles.

Civvie 11 addressed the situation in a video focused on Quake expansions. He described the cuts as particularly damaging to id Software, the creator of Doom.

"Microsoft gambled and lost," Civvie said. "All of the layoffs infuriate me but there’s something especially gross and predatory about bleeding id like this."

He noted the studio's contributions, including Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal, which helped revive interest in fast-paced action games. Civvie also mentioned The Dark Ages as part of that legacy.

The comments come amid broader reductions across Xbox studios acquired in the past decade. Civvie expressed concern that such moves limit creativity at influential developers.
