In Karnataka's Kodagu district, a 49-year-old coffee grower named Ganapathi was trampled to death by a wild elephant that suddenly appeared in his plantation near Siddapura in Virajpet taluk on Thursday around noon. According to forest department officials, an alert about the elephant's movement had been issued to local residents beforehand.

The department's team rushed to the scene upon receiving the information. A senior forest official stated, “An alert regarding movement of elephant was issued to residents of the area. Our team rushed to the spot as soon as we received the information. All concerns raised by the villagers are being addressed.”

Orders have been issued to monitor the elephant involved in the attack and capture it. The official added, “All teams are already vigilant and monitoring the movement of the wild elephant. All efforts are being taken to capture it. The operation will begin tomorrow.”

Kodagu, known for Madikeri, is a major coffee-producing area where human-wildlife conflicts are common. The forest department is taking active steps to ensure villager safety.
