Cybertruck owner lets inexperienced 15-year-old master steering on twisting roads

A Tesla Cybertruck owner shared how a 15-year-old neighbor with minimal driving experience quickly adapted to the vehicle's all-wheel steering during a nighttime drive on hilly farm roads. After brief practice in a parking lot, the teen piloted the truck for most of a two-mile trip, using Full Self-Driving demonstrations to build confidence. The owner was impressed by how fast she handled the challenging conditions.

David Murray, a Cybertruck owner, recounted the experience in a Facebook post, highlighting the vehicle's intuitive controls. Murray has a 55-year friendship with his neighbors, who are fellow farmers. He previously allowed their son to practice driving in his Model S when the boy was 15.5 years old. Last night, after bumping into the family at dinner, Murray offered their 15-year-old daughter a chance to drive the Cybertruck back to their farm.

The teen eagerly agreed, despite her mother's concerns about driving in the dark. Murray first let her complete several laps in a near-empty parking lot, where she grasped the all-wheel steering and maintained lanes perfectly. They then proceeded to the main road, toggling Full Self-Driving (FSD) a couple of times so she could feel the truck's precise tracking.

Heading to the orchard via the hilliest, twisting road, the teen drove 90% of the route, with Murray and another person named K supervising. FSD was engaged in a few spots to demonstrate handling. The entire journey covered about two miles.

“The whole trip was maybe 2 miles, but in arriving back to the orchard, I can honestly say I was totally impressed with how quickly an inexperienced driver adapted perfectly to operating a Cybertruck!”

Murray emphasized that driving a Cybertruck differs from any other vehicle, crediting its steering system—which reduces turning radius at low speeds and enhances stability at higher ones—for making the large truck feel manageable. The FSD demo provided real-time examples of smooth lane centering and cornering, aiding her quick learning under pressure like night driving and elevation changes.

This story underscores how the Cybertruck's technology can accelerate competence for new drivers, though discussions noted the need for caution with features like regenerative braking when transitioning to other vehicles.

Tesla has started the wide rollout of Full Self-Driving (Supervised) version 14.1.5 to Cybertruck owners through software update 2025.38.8.5. This marks the first deployment of FSD v14 on the electric pickup, following refinements for its unique hardware. The update introduces enhanced navigation and parking options tailored to the vehicle's capabilities.

A Cybertruck owner in New Mexico says Tesla's Full Self-Driving system steered his vehicle away from a head-on collision with an oncoming pickup truck. Clifford Lee was driving at 75 mph on Highway 54 when the incident occurred. He escaped uninjured after the system intervened at the last moment.

A video has surfaced showing a Tesla Cybertruck driver playing the video game Grand Theft Auto while the vehicle's Full Self-Driving system is engaged on the highway. The driver uses a controller, with eyes focused on the game screen, as the truck navigates traffic. This incident highlights ongoing efforts by drivers to bypass Tesla's driver-monitoring safeguards.

In a recent Facebook discussion, current Tesla Cybertruck owners offered candid insights to a prospective buyer, highlighting both the vehicle's strengths and challenges. Experiences range from heat management and maintenance to public attention and performance in snow. The conversation underscores the Cybertruck as a tech-forward lifestyle choice rather than a conventional truck.

Tesla has produced its first Cybercab, a steering wheel-less autonomous vehicle, at Gigafactory Texas. The company shared a photo of the milestone on X, with volume production planned for April 2026. The Cybercab is designed exclusively for robotaxi service, raising questions about the readiness of Tesla's self-driving technology.

Two riders tested Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) unsupervised feature for the first time yesterday in Austin. They expressed amazement at its precise maneuvering during a parking scenario. The demonstration highlights ongoing trials of the advanced driver-assistance system.

Production-ready Tesla Cybercab units have been observed at Gigafactory Texas undergoing validation testing without steering wheels or pedals. The sighting suggests Tesla is preparing final versions for crash testing as mass production approaches. This development aligns with the company's plans for an autonomous Robotaxi vehicle.
