DA by-election ward candidate shot dead in Du Noon

A Democratic Alliance ward by-election candidate was shot and killed in Du Noon, Cape Town, on Saturday while returning from a voter registration event.

Sinovuyo Dyokwe, the DA's activist branch chairperson and recent by-election candidate in the area, was killed en route home from registering voters. The incident occurred on the first day of the registration weekend.

The Democratic Alliance expressed shock at the killing. "The DA is shocked and saddened by the senseless killing of our Du Noon activist branch chairperson and recent by-election candidate Sinovuyo Dyokwe," the party said. "Sinovuyo was a bubbly, very energetic person, who lived for the DA and its values. She will be sincerely and sorely missed."

Constituency head Nicholas Gotsell said the party is working with the South African Police Service to establish the facts and will continue monitoring the situation.
