DA welcomes new members in Verulam

The Democratic Alliance welcomed new members in Verulam north of Durban on June 6. The event formed part of efforts to mobilise support ahead of local government elections. eThekwini mayoral candidate Haniff Hoosen criticised the ANC-run municipality for failing residents.

The gathering was led by Haniff Hoosen and provincial chairperson Dean Macpherson. The party said it has increased public engagements across the municipality to prepare for the polls. Hoosen told supporters that the ANC-run eThekwini municipality has failed residents. He pointed to several uncompleted and mismanaged projects as evidence of this failure. Hoosen said: “We were hopeful that this new government would have built facilities for our children, football fields, swimming pools, netball. ... We were hopeful in 1994 that this government was going to do that but they are stealing money for themselves instead of putting it into the community.”
