David Byrne took the Outdoor Theatre stage at Coachella 2026 on Saturday, April 12, appearing first in an orange jumpsuit before his band and dancers joined for an immersive show. The set featured songs from his latest album Who Is the Sky?, including 'Everybody Laughs', 'When We Are Singing', and 'What Is the Reason for It?'. He also performed his Brian Eno collaboration 'Strange Overtones' and Talking Heads staples like 'And She Was', 'Houses in Motion', '(Nothing But) Flowers', 'This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)', 'Slippery People', 'Psycho Killer', 'Life During Wartime', 'Once in a Lifetime', and 'Burning Down the House' to enthusiastic sing-alongs from the crowd. The performance started late but built into a crowd-pleasing spectacle of choreography and stagecraft, as seen in fan footage shared online. The show touched on themes of love and resistance. Before 'What Is the Reason for It?', Byrne shared a story from John Cameron Mitchell, recounting how Mitchell told him, 'Love and kindness are the most punk thing we can do right now.'
