David Jonsson cast as Black Panther for 2028 sequel

Marvel Studios announced at San Diego Comic-Con that David Jonsson will star as T’Challa’s son in Black Panther 3. The film is scheduled to reach theaters on December 15, 2028.

Kevin Feige revealed that director Ryan Coogler identified Jonsson six months earlier during a secret meeting. Coogler called Feige afterward and said, “He’s the guy, he’s the guy, I felt it. I felt it in my soul. He’s a good man, and he is the next Black Panther.” Feige added that he got chills and agreed to move forward.

The casting was unveiled during Marvel’s Hall H panel on Saturday. Letitia Wright and Winston Duke are returning for the project, which follows Prince T’Challa II as he comes of age and assumes the Black Panther mantle.

Duke met Jonsson earlier that day and told him, “Come play.” He explained that he wanted to offer the same support he received when he joined the franchise.

The first Black Panther film opened in 2018 and earned seven Oscar nominations, including Best Picture.
