French streaming service Deezer announced it will remove AI-generated songs used for fraudulent streams. The company said more than half of new uploads are now created by artificial intelligence.
Deezer said Tuesday it will remove AI-generated songs used for fraudulent streams. It will also delete tracks that have not been streamed for six months or more.
The service is receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks every day. Last year it identified more than 13.4 million AI tracks on its platform. Fully AI-generated songs make up only 1% to 3% of total streams, but 85% of those were fraudulent.
Deezer does not pay royalties on streams it determines have been manipulated. In June 2025 the company began tagging albums that include AI and excluding such music from algorithmic and editorial recommendations.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company is trying to protect artists and maintain focus on music that fans actually love. He called for the industry to create shared standards for a healthy music ecosystem.
