Delhi govt launches AI-powered portal to tackle pollution from construction sites

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched Dust Portal 2.0 on Monday to monitor dust at construction sites using artificial intelligence.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee developed the platform for sites of 500 square yards or larger. It maps locations, evaluates five dust control parameters and links each site to the nearest air quality station.

Alerts in yellow, orange and red will be issued automatically when pollution rises, allowing agencies to respond quickly. Project proponents can also perform self-assessments through the system.

Gupta said the government is using AI to simplify compliance and make enforcement more transparent. Work is under way to digitise the challan process so notices can be issued directly via the portal.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa added that the system will enable real-time monitoring and strict action against repeat offenders.

The Aam Aadmi Party started a signature campaign on Tuesday seeking legal protection for residents of 91 unauthorised colonies in Delhi's O-Zone area along the Yamuna River.

Ludhiana has become the third city in Punjab to implement an AI-driven Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS). Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav inaugurated the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) on Tuesday. The system detects nine traffic violations and enhances surveillance across the city.

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has directed the Delhi Development Authority to prepare a time-bound plan to transform Dwarka into a hub for semiconductor plants, data centres and other non-polluting industries.

The Delhi government plans to plant 70 lakh saplings under the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam drive launching June 22. Citizens can register via a portal for free saplings and digital certificates.
