DMK leaders have accused the Congress of betrayal after it joined the TVK government in Tamil Nadu. IUML and Congress figures defended the decision amid sharp exchanges.
DMK president M.K. Stalin said the TVK government led by Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay was sitting on the fence and would certainly fall one day. He noted that the TVK formed the government with support from parties including the CPI(M), CPI, VCK, IUML and the Congress.
Udhayanidhi Stalin told a DMK youth wing meeting in Chennai that the Congress had backstabbed the DMK after years of alliance. He said the party lacked minimum decency and should not be trusted in future alliances.
Congress Legislature Party leader S. Rajesh Kumar, who joined the TVK ministry, said alliance partners accepted Vijay’s democratic principles. IUML national president K.M. Kader Mohideen said the coalition government would stay like in Kerala.
