Writers of the 2023 film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves completed a script for a sequel, but its production remains uncertain due to financial concerns.
Co-director and writer Jonathan Goldstein said the team was hired to write the follow-up after the original movie's release. He noted in remarks to ScreenRant that the project may not reach theaters because of costs associated with the films.
"We actually wrote a sequel to ‘Dungeons & Dragons.’ We were hired to write it," Goldstein stated. "I don’t know that it will see the light of day for a number of financial reasons. They’re expensive movies to make, but it’d be great fun to do it. We love that cast, and we think we wrote something that fans would like."
The first film earned a 91 percent critics score and 92 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes yet grossed 205.46 million dollars worldwide against a 150 million dollar budget. It featured actors including Chris Pine and Michelle Rodriguez.
Goldstein and frequent collaborator John Francis Daley previously directed comedies such as Game Night. They are now preparing to direct Renegades and are developing a new Star Trek film.
