Efforts advance to register Ethiopian Rift Valley Geopark with UNESCO

State Minister for Tourism Seleshi Girma said work is underway to register the Central Ethiopia Rift Valley Geopark as part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network.

Addis Ababa. An educational visit to the area was held to confirm that requirements for UNESCO registration have been met.

UNESCO inspectors are expected soon to conduct an evaluation. Full community support and integration of culture, history and nature were highlighted as fulfilled.

The park covers 3,152 square kilometers across 14 districts. Necessary infrastructure work including information centers and signage has been completed. Registration would make it Ethiopia's first UNESCO Geopark.
