Egypt injects EGP 10.05bn into national veal project in 2025

In 2025, Egypt's executive body approved the disbursement of EGP 1.06 billion to support the National Veal Project, raising total funding to over EGP 10 billion. The initiative has assisted thousands of small-scale breeders and increased livestock production nationwide. Officials highlighted improvements in licensing, feed regulation, and output during the year.

Tarek Soliman, head of the Livestock and Poultry Development Sector at Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, stated that authorities approved the disbursement of EGP 1.06 billion in 2025 to 1,122 beneficiaries for breeding and fattening 12,438 heads of livestock under the National Veal Project. This raised the total funding injected into the project to EGP 10.053 billion by year's end.

The initiative has supported around 45,100 small-scale breeders, young graduates, and women in villages under the Decent Life rural development program, with overall livestock aid reaching approximately 522,500 heads.

Soliman's comments appeared in a report reviewed by Agriculture Minister Alaa Farouk on the sector's 2025 performance, emphasizing streamlined licensing and feed registration aligned with biosecurity standards.

During the year, 10,870 operating licenses were issued, including 3,685 permits for small breeders to rear livestock in compliance with safety rules, coordinated with the General Authority for Veterinary Services. Approvals covered 8,247 feed formulations, with 5,395 local and 2,852 imported products, plus 610 technical nods for new desert projects.

Fifty milk collection centers were upgraded, bringing the total to 300, including 90 funded by over EGP 517 million. Over 250 unannounced inspections led to seizing 187 tonnes of non-compliant feed, with violators referred to prosecutors.

Applications for automated licenses are now available via digital platforms like the ministry's website. Production saw gains: red meat output hit 600,000 tonnes, up 8% from 555,000 in 2024; fresh milk reached 7 million tonnes, also up 8%. Broiler production rose to 1.6 billion birds from 1.4 billion, eggs to 16 billion from 14 billion, and local baladi chickens to 360 million from 320 million, a 12.5% increase.
