Egypt signs MoU for financing and development of Borg El Arab dry port

Egypt has signed a memorandum of understanding to finance, design, build, operate and maintain the Borg El Arab dry port and logistics zone spanning 133 feddans in Borg El Arab City.

Transport Minister Kamel Al-Wazir witnessed the signing of the memorandum between the General Authority for Land and Dry Ports and Sky Ports. The agreement was signed by Sayed Metwally, chairperson of the authority, and Tarek Hussein, chairperson of Sky Ports, in the presence of several ministry officials.

The minister said the project aligns with directives from President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to turn Egypt into a regional hub for transport and logistics. It forms part of a national plan to establish 33 dry ports and logistics zones along with seven integrated logistics corridors.

The project is expected to improve services for the Borg El Arab industrial zone, ease trade, reduce seaport congestion and create jobs for young people. It will also lower transport costs and speed up customs procedures.

Tarek Hussein noted that the deal extends Sky Ports’ longstanding cooperation with the ministry. The company has operated in logistics since 2015 and has handled more than 12 million tonnes of cargo at East Port Said Port since February 2024.
