In Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's National Election Board announced that it has received candidacy submissions from 10,934 candidates representing 47 registered parties. This was stated in a press release by the board's spokesperson, Melat Woreq Haileu.
Among the candidates, 2,098 are for the House of Peoples' Representatives and 8,736 for Regional Councils. Additionally, 73 independent candidates have registered. Eligible candidates must be Ethiopians aged 18 or older, residents in the area for at least six months, and not deprived of political rights under special circumstances.
Voter registration will run from Ketit 28 to Megabit 1, with all polling stations open during this period. The board plans to intensify preparations at all stations. Discussions with parties will address electoral districts, regional council adjustments, and candidate modifications.
The board assured that the electoral system will operate transparently. Election observation conditions will be monitored using green, yellow, and red indicators in collaboration with the parties.
