Explosion at Srinagar's Nowgam police station injures several

A massive explosion rocked the Nowgam police station in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, around 11:20 p.m. on November 14, 2025, injuring at least eight people. Officials said the blast occurred while surveying seized explosives, including ammonium nitrate, from recent terror raids. Flames engulfed vehicles, and the impact was felt across the area.

The explosion occurred on the night of November 14, 2025, when a joint team from Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Forensic Science Laboratory was surveying explosives seized during recent raids in Faridabad, Haryana. Officials stated that the raids uncovered around 2,900 kg of improvised explosive device (IED)-making materials, including ammonium nitrate, which was stored at the police station for investigation.

At least eight people were injured, three critically, mostly with burn injuries, and were rushed to hospitals in Srinagar. One report claims seven deaths and 30 injuries, contrasting with official statements mentioning only eight injuries. The blast triggered a huge fire that engulfed several vehicles parked on the premises, with eyewitnesses reporting smoke and flames rising into the sky. The impact was felt throughout the area.

In the background, on October 19, officers at the Nowgam police station spotted pro-Jaish-e-Muhammad posters in the area, leading to the arrest of seven locals. The probe resulted in the apprehension of Dr. Adeel Ahmad Rather on November 1 and another doctor, Dr. Muzamil Ahmad Ganaie alias Musaib, from Kashmir. According to police, the doctors were part of an inter-State terror module involved in fundraising, logistics, and procurement of arms and bomb-making materials. The exact cause of the blast remains unconfirmed, with investigations focusing on terror links.
