Kramat Jati Market Fire Update: Rp10 Billion Loss, Renovation Targeted in 5 Days

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung assessed the aftermath of Monday's fire at Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, confirming an electrical short circuit as the cause, estimating Rp10 billion in losses to 350 kiosks, and pledging renovations within five days.

Following the fire that broke out on December 15, 2025, at 07:15 WIB in the fruit section of Pasar Induk Kramat Jati, East Jakarta—which was extinguished within an hour by 95 firefighters—Governor Pramono Anung visited the site on Tuesday (December 16). He attributed the blaze to an electrical short circuit, urging Perumda Pasar Jaya to enhance prevention measures like adding hydrants.

The fire destroyed 350 kiosks used by 121 traders, primarily selling fruits like bananas and papayas, across 6,166 square meters. Losses are estimated at Rp10 billion, but kiosks are insured for claims. Affected traders have been relocated to a temporary holding area and received Rp5 million in aid each to sustain operations during renovations, targeted for completion in no more than five days ahead of Christmas and New Year.

As Jakarta's key fruit market with Rp100 million daily turnover, the quick recovery aims to maintain supply chains and support traders' economic rebound.
