Flash flood hits Aceh Tengah again, two emergency bridges collapse

Central Aceh district has been hit by another flash flood due to heavy rain since the afternoon, causing two emergency bridges to collapse and isolating several villages. No fatalities have been reported so far. The Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBA) has deployed teams to anticipate further impacts.

The Aceh Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBA) reported that Central Aceh district was struck by a flash flood on Monday night due to heavy rain starting in the afternoon. "Heavy rain since the afternoon caused the flash flood in Central Aceh," said BPBA head Bahron Bakti in his report from Banda Aceh.

Two emergency bridges, built after a hydrometeorological disaster in late November 2025, have collapsed. The bridges are located in Burlah Village, Ketol Subdistrict, and Terang Engon Village, Silih Nara Subdistrict. This has isolated four villages in Ketol Subdistrict, while one village in Silih Nara Subdistrict is cut off as its bridge tilted and was swept away by the current.

No deaths or evacuees have been reported from this follow-up flash flood. The Central Aceh BPBD has deployed two heavy machinery units to the site. "Rain is still falling and water currents remain very strong. BPBD has sent TRC PB personnel to anticipate any potential bad situations," added Bahron Bakti.
