A 50-year-old man who previously worked at the Swedish royal court faces charges for multiple counts of child exploitation for sexual posing, child pornography offenses, and offensive photography. The crimes are alleged to have occurred between January 2020 and March 2023. The man held a responsible position close to the royal family and was invited to a royal baptism during his time at the court.
The investigation began when a parent alerted police after discovering their daughter chatting with an unknown person on Snapchat. The trail led to the man, who, according to prosecutor Tomas Engman, posed as a younger boy and groomed the girls by sending hearts, compliments, and encouraging them to send pictures. Police have identified ten girls aged seven to 14 as victims, but there are more unidentified ones based on images found in the man's home.
A house search seized around 100 child pornography images. Additionally, digital traces on the man's phone showed discussions with other men about potential girls, including tips on those easy to obtain images from.
Court information chief Margareta Thorgren states that the man was removed from duty immediately when police contacted the court in early 2023. The security organization was involved alongside police. The royal family and court view the allegations very seriously, and the man will not return to any position at the court.
