Former swimming leader Hans Chrunak dies

Former Swedish Swimming Federation captain Hans Chrunak has died after a long illness. He was 77.

Hans Chrunak was born in Landskrona in 1948. He served as captain of the Swedish national swimming team from 1991 to 2000, during which the swimmers collected 183 medals at the Olympics, World Championships and European Championships. After his tenure as federation captain he worked as sports director at the Swedish Swimming Federation and later as a swimming expert on television. He also led Helsingborgs Simsällskap and served as club director in ice hockey for Luleå HF between 2005 and 2007. His family announced on Instagram that he had passed away peacefully after a long illness, noting that he fought to the end against his cancer. In 2001 he was named Swedish sports leader of the year and in 2014 a memorial stone was erected in his honour on Landskrona’s Walk of Fame.
