Four ‘Namo’ cities to be developed in NCR under 2041 plan

The National Capital Region will see four new ‘Namo’ cities developed as part of the proposed NCR Regional Plan 2041. Union Minister Manohar Lal announced the plan after a board meeting attended by chief ministers from Delhi and Haryana.

The announcement came after the 42nd board meeting of the NCR Planning Board. One city each will be developed in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. They will be built around Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System stations as mixed-use and transit-oriented projects.

A performance-linked incentive package of ₹5,000 crore will support the development. States can propose three sub-cities each, with the final four selected through a competitive process. The plan also divides the NCR into three pollution zones, with stricter rules in the central area.

Nine counter-magnet areas including Hisar, Jaipur and Dehradun were identified to reduce migration to Delhi. The board rejected a proposal from Haryana to expand the NCR boundaries. The updated draft of the plan incorporates responses from the states and will be declared soon.
