A powerful heat dome is settling over western France, with temperatures frequently exceeding 30 °C and records expected for May.
Thirteen departments in western France were placed under yellow heatwave alert on Monday by Météo-France. La Chaîne Météo says the anticyclone from the Maghreb will keep temperatures very high at least through mid-week.
Highs will reach 33 to 37 °C from Rennes to Bordeaux on Monday, then 31 to 35 °C across three-quarters of the country on Tuesday. Wednesday will see widespread heat with 33 to 35 °C in the west.
On Sunday, temperatures already exceeded 30 °C in several cities, including Bordeaux, where May records were broken. No rain is expected except for a few mountain storms.
