The George Municipality in South Africa's Western Cape has lifted emergency water tariffs and eased restrictions from Level 2D to Level 2B following improved dam levels.

The municipality announced the changes on Thursday after the Garden Route Dam rose from 46% to nearly 89% in two weeks due to heavy rainfall. The Haarlem Dam reached full capacity at 100%.

Mayor Browen Johnson welcomed the move but urged residents to avoid returning to wasteful water habits.

The decision follows widespread rain across the region that boosted storage levels significantly.
