Georgia man sets world record with 38-hour golf marathon

Mike Woodard played golf for 38 consecutive hours at his home course in Georgia, setting what organizers call a new world record while raising more than $180,000 for children's healthcare.

Woodard, 40, began his attempt at 5:58 p.m. Sunday at Cartersville Country Club. He continued through the night using glow balls and lightsabers on the flags, with volunteers providing light and supplies, and finished at 7:58 a.m. Tuesday.

The effort covered 144 holes across eight rounds. Woodard posted rounds between 78 and 88. He said the mental strain proved toughest, including hallucinations in the final hours, but support from volunteers and a friend helped him finish.

Woodard raised funds for Live2540, a nonprofit supporting children's healthcare in Liberia. He noted that 38 hours of golf seemed minor compared to the challenges some families face.

By Thursday he returned to work, and on Friday he played his regular round with friends.
