HBO has announced that acclaimed composer Hans Zimmer, along with his collective Bleeding Fingers Music, will create the original score for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series. The project, set to debut in 2027, aims to honor the musical legacy of the franchise while adapting it for television. Zimmer and collaborators Kara Talve and Anže Rozman expressed their humility in taking on the responsibility.
HBO revealed on January 15, 2026, that Hans Zimmer and Bleeding Fingers Music will compose the score for the network's adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter novels. The series, which will adapt each book into a season, premieres in 2027 on HBO and streams on Max, including in markets like Germany, Italy, the UK, and Ireland.
Zimmer, known for scoring over 500 projects that have grossed more than $28 billion worldwide, brings his expertise from films such as Dune, Top Gun: Maverick, No Time to Die, Interstellar, The Dark Knight Trilogy, and Gladiator. He has earned two Academy Awards, three Golden Globes, four Grammys, an American Music Award, seven Emmy nominations, and a Tony nomination. Bleeding Fingers, an Emmy Award-winning and Grammy- and BAFTA-nominated collective co-founded by Zimmer, Russell Emanuel, and Steven Kofsky, emphasizes collaborative innovation in creating scores for film, television, and multimedia.
In a joint statement, Zimmer, Kara Talve, and Anže Rozman said: "The musical legacy of Harry Potter is a touch point for composers everywhere and we are humbled to join such a remarkable team on a project of this magnitude. The new score follows the iconic music of the original films, composed by John Williams for the first three entries, Patrick Doyle for Goblet of Fire, Nicholas Hooper for Order of the Phoenix and Half-Blood Prince, and Alexandre Desplat for Deathly Hallows. The series is written and executive-produced by Francesca Gardiner, with Mark Mylod directing multiple episodes. Executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman. The young cast features Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, alongside adults like John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
This collaboration positions the series to blend reverence for the source material with fresh sonic elements suited to long-form television.
