Harvey Keitel discusses new film and AI concerns at festival

Harvey Keitel is shooting a new film written by his wife Daphna Kastner while attending the Karlovy Vary Film Festival. The actor expressed concerns about Artificial Intelligence during an interview at the event. He is presenting a screening of Martin Scorsese’s “Mean Streets.”

Keitel told Variety that the project involves guerrilla warfare elements and is being made in Hollywood with college students on the crew. He did not provide additional details about the script.

The actor voiced worries over AI technology after reading about an audiobook of Homer’s “The Odyssey” narrated by an AI version of Michael Caine’s voice. “They used his voice, but there was no emotion in it,” Keitel said. “They couldn’t reproduce Michael Caine’s beauty.”

Keitel emphasized the role of arts and film festivals amid global conflicts. “Festivals are more important today than ever before in my lifetime because of the social situation around the world now,” he said. He quoted Aristotle on the need for aesthetic force to change culture.
