Hong Kong airport handles 61 million passengers in 2025

Hong Kong International Airport recorded 61 million passenger trips in 2025, a 15% increase year on year, following a full year of operations with its third runway. The Airport Authority attributed the strong performance to a busy Christmas season, with cargo throughput also rising 2.7%.

Hong Kong International Airport achieved a record 61 million passenger trips in 2025, marking a 15% year-on-year increase after operating its third runway for a full year. The Airport Authority announced on Thursday that the robust figures were driven by a bustling Christmas season, with over 200,000 daily passengers for eight days in December.

"The strong traffic performance in 2025 marks a new milestone, securing our position as the leading international aviation hub in Asia," said Airport Authority CEO Vivian Cheung Kar-fay, noting that the organization won 80 awards last year.

To enhance connectivity, the airport introduced 30 new global destinations, including Abu Dhabi, Brussels, and Dallas, while boosting flight frequencies on key routes. Flight movements rose 8.7% to 394,730, supported by the launch of the Terminal 2 coach hall and the "Park and Fly" service, which improved transport for passengers in the Greater Bay Area.

In December alone, the airport handled 5.8 million passengers, up 13.5% from the previous year, with flight movements increasing 7.1% to 35,920. Cargo throughput for the year grew 2.7% to 5.07 million tonnes.

This surge underscores the airport's strong recovery and its strategic expansions to maintain competitiveness in Asia's aviation landscape.
