Idu confirms 80% progress on group 9 of avenue 68

Bogotá's Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (Idu) announced that group 9 of avenue 68 has reached 80% progress, up from 32% in January. This 2.23 km section will enter its final phase this year, according to director Orlando Molano. The project includes lanes for TransMilenio and improvements to public spaces.

Orlando Molano, general director of Bogotá's Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (Idu), conducted a verification tour of group 9 on avenue 68, located between carrera 48 and novena. This section was handed over to the contractor in January with 32% progress, and it was expected to exceed 72% to meet deadlines set by mayor Carlos Fernando Galán.

Molano confirmed the current progress stands at 80%, allowing entry into the final phase of the project. "We are now at 80% on this group. So this year, as requested by mayor Carlos Fernando Galán, we must deliver this group. We have started landscaping work in the public space (...), we are improving sidewalks and lighting, but additionally we are finishing the pipe jacking," stated the Idu director.

The work covers 2.23 km in length and plans to enable three mixed lanes and one exclusive for TransMilenio per direction. To date, 100% of the pipe installation has been completed, while the construction of chambers in the wells exceeds 50% execution. Furthermore, the project includes 40,115 m² of public space, 13,682 m² of green areas, 3.1 km of bike lanes, and two TransMilenio stations at 65% progress, where foundation activities, metallic structure installation, and coverings have been carried out.

Molano also noted progress on complementary works, such as reinforcing the pedestrian bridge on calle 97 of the northern highway to connect with TransMilenio stations.
