Iga Swiatek defends psychologist after doping ordeal

Iga Swiatek has spoken out in support of her longtime psychologist Daria Abramowicz following renewed scrutiny over their working relationship. The world No. 3 addressed the topic in an interview with The Times ahead of her Wimbledon title defense.

Swiatek revisited the low point of late 2024 when she received a one-month suspension after testing positive for a banned substance in a contaminated melatonin supplement. She described weeks of emotional distress, saying she was “basically just crying for weeks” and struggled to return to the court.

Abramowicz, who has worked with Swiatek since 2019, provided essential support during that period. Swiatek credited her with helping develop emotional and cognitive skills needed to compete at the highest level.

The Polish player also discussed her new coaching setup with Francisco Roig, who joined her staff in early 2026 after parting ways with Emma Raducanu. Training sessions observed by Rafael Nadal in Mallorca in April helped restore her joy for the sport.

Swiatek enters Wimbledon 2026 with a 21-11 record and a fourth-round finish at Roland Garros this season. She has not won a title since claiming the Venus Rosewater Dish in July 2025.
