India defers Africa and big cat summits amid Ebola concerns

India has postponed the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit and the International Big Cat Alliance Summit following a new Ebola outbreak in parts of Africa. The World Health Organization has declared the situation a public health emergency of international concern. The government has also issued travel advisories for passengers from high-risk countries.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced the deferral of the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit in a joint statement with the African Union. The event, originally scheduled for May 28-31 in New Delhi, will now take place at a later date after consultations on the evolving health situation.

The Environment Ministry confirmed that the first International Big Cat Alliance Summit, planned for June 1-2, has also been postponed. Officials cited the need for broad participation from African countries affected by the Ebola developments.

The Directorate General of Health Services issued an advisory requiring travellers from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda and South Sudan to report symptoms such as fever, headache or unexplained bleeding at Indian airports. No cases of Ebola have been reported in India so far.
