Kansas man convicted of second-degree murder in fatal crash

Isaiah Sadowski was convicted last week of second-degree murder for killing 75-year-old Barbara Patterson in a December 2021 crash in Kansas. A Johnson County jury reached the verdict after Sadowski had pleaded not guilty in 2022.

Sadowski, who was 20 at the time of the incident, was driving drunk at more than 130 mph when he struck Patterson's vehicle. He later fled the United States and was taken into custody in Colima, Mexico, during a joint operation by the U.S. Marshals Service and Mexican authorities.

In a June 2024 YouTube interview, Sadowski claimed the crash occurred after he learned his fiancée had cheated on him. He alleged both vehicles ran a red light and said he had spent $300,000 on legal fees with three attorneys who later withdrew from the case.

Sadowski agreed to pay $1.5 million to Patterson's son to settle a wrongful death lawsuit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court. A sentencing date has not been set, according to the Johnson County District Attorney's Office.
