Katie Boulter suffered a first-round exit at Wimbledon, losing 6-4, 6-2 to Italian qualifier Tyra Grant in 66 minutes. The British player broke down during her post-match press conference while reflecting on the result.
Boulter, the last remaining British singles player at the tournament, faced an 18-year-old ranked 112 places below her. Grant won without dropping a point on her second serve.
The 28-year-old had entered Wimbledon after reaching the semifinals at Queen’s Club, where she defeated world No. 2 Elena Rybakina. She described the loss as particularly difficult given the home crowd and the occasion.
Boulter said the defeat left her struggling to feel satisfied with her performance. She added that she would take a couple of days to process the result before focusing on her upcoming wedding to Alex de Minaur.
De Minaur advanced in the men’s singles draw. Boulter indicated she would play women’s doubles with Heather Watson but was uncertain about mixed doubles.
