The announcement came on January 20, 2026, during an episode of Thompson's Prime Video sports talk show Good Sports. Mitchell stepped in as a guest host for Kevin Hart, who was sidelined by illness. Thompson shared his enthusiasm in a statement: “Kel and I have always loved finding new ways to work together. And this project felt like the perfect mix of nostalgia, comedy, and something completely unexpected.
