Kenya life expectancy rises to 66.8 years

Kenyans are living longer, with life expectancy rising from 63.5 years in 2022 to 66.8 years in 2025, the National Treasury reported.

The figures were presented on Wednesday, July 22, during the launch of the 2027/2028 Budget Preparation Process. The National Treasury attributed the increase to better healthcare, improved nutrition, enhanced sanitation and improved socioeconomic conditions.

Women continue to outlive men, with women expected to live about 66.5 years on average and men between 60 and 62 years. The latest estimate exceeds the World Bank's 2024 projection of 64 years for Kenya and places the country close to Uganda and Tanzania.

The Treasury also noted a drop in the pupil-to-teacher ratio from 41:1 in 2022 to 38:1 in 2025 after the recruitment of 100,000 teachers, along with higher enrolment across education levels.
