Kevin Colbert says Mike Tomlin could return to coaching

Former Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert believes Mike Tomlin will coach in the NFL again one day. Colbert made the comments Monday while reflecting on Tomlin’s resignation earlier this year.

Colbert worked with Tomlin for more than 15 years. He said Tomlin is a coach at heart and compared him to Bill Cowher, who also stepped away from the Steelers sideline and later built a television career.

Tomlin resigned in mid-January the day after the team’s latest playoff loss. He had served as head coach for 19 seasons, winning a Super Bowl in his second year and compiling 193 regular-season victories.

Colbert also noted that Tomlin is set to join NBC Sports as a studio analyst for its Sunday Night Football coverage. He said Tomlin will excel in the role and that people will see a different side of him.

Colbert added that Tomlin could either stay in broadcasting or return to coaching and that he would not be surprised by either path.
