Lee Kang-in will face his former coach Javier Aguirre when South Korea meets Mexico in a FIFA World Cup Group A match. The game is set for Thursday in Zapopan.

Zapopan, Mexico — Lee Kang-in first showed his playmaking ability under Javier Aguirre at RCD Mallorca during the 2022-2023 La Liga season. He recorded career highs of six goals and seven assists before moving to Paris Saint-Germain in summer 2023.

Aguirre once described Lee as "the most talented player in the squad and he's so lethal in one-on-one situations." The 25-year-old is now viewed as one of South Korea's key creative midfielders.

South Korea opened their Group A campaign with a 2-1 win over Czechia on June 12. Lee set up the equalizer for Hwang In-beom with a precise through ball. The match against Mexico is scheduled for 7 p.m. local time on Thursday at Estadio Guadalajara.
