On Monday, the defense lawyers, Mes Emmanuelle Franck and Alexandre Martin, introduced a disturbing element during the hearing of Donat-Jean Macquet, known as Delphine's «lover».
Macquet, who had a four-and-a-half-month affair with Delphine, was a seller at Leroy Merlin near Montauban at the time. He now performs automotive expertise and teaches piano. The defense claimed his phone was located in the area of the couple's home during the night of the crime, and that these data are the only element missing from the procedure.
«The defense has the monopoly on doubt», note the lawyers, who have all rights to defend their client, even though the accused can lie without invalidating his position. This revelation, described as a «small grenade» by the observer, could sow doubt among the jurors in a case without a body or irrefutable evidence.
