Luleå Hockey defenseman Jesper Sellgren has revealed that he suffered a punctured lung during the SHL playoffs. The 27-year-old was hospitalized for three days but returned to play over 41 minutes in a key semifinal match against Skellefteå that lasted 122 minutes. Luleå ultimately lost the series after five games.
Jesper Sellgren, a 27-year-old defenseman for Luleå Hockey, disclosed that his lung was punctured during the playoffs. He was rushed to the hospital and remained there for three days, as reported by Norrbottens-Kuriren. Sellgren described the ordeal: 'I had difficulty moving and could only take short breaths. The pain made it stop.' Despite the severity, he returned for the semifinal series against Skellefteå. In one marathon game that extended to 122 minutes, Sellgren logged more than 41 minutes of ice time. 'It worked out anyway. Injuries are part of this sport,' he said. Luleå fell to Skellefteå in five matches. Sellgren is still recovering, noting lingering pain from broken ribs and reduced lung capacity. 'The pain can linger for a while when you break ribs, and my lung capacity is still not 100 percent,' he added.
