Manchester United announced on Wednesday that midfielder Manuel Ugarte has undergone successful surgery on a knee ligament injury sustained at the 2026 World Cup.
The club issued a statement confirming the procedure and outlining next steps for the player. Ugarte suffered the injury during Uruguay’s final group stage match against Spain, which ended their tournament participation.
In the statement, Manchester United said Ugarte will now start rehabilitation under the care of the club’s medical and performance staff. The club wished him well for his recovery and pledged full support throughout the process.
Ugarte joined Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2024 in a deal worth up to £50.5 million. He has made 69 appearances for the club and scored twice.
